Cut them up and make one packet, add peach twig and willow twig, five inches of each, and decoct and take. Clinical commentary 臨床

A heat-malaria formula and one of the three the chapter names for it, beside Insambaekho-tang and Siho-jimo-tang. Anemarrhena, gardenia and lycium root bark take the heat out of the qi aspect and the bone-steaming heat with it; bupleurum holds the half-exterior; fritillaria and areca seed move the phlegm and the stagnation downward; cicada moulting is the chapter's light, outward-releasing drug. Dichroa is the drug that actually cuts the paroxysm, and the rest of the formula is built around keeping it from scalding a heat patient. The peach and willow twigs and the wayside kudzu vine added when the first dose fails are not pharmacy drugs but hedgerow ones, gathered on the spot. They belong to the 禳 side of this chapter — the formulas that drive the malaria off rather than treat a viscus — and the Deukhyo gives them as a plain field remedy. **Contains dichroa (常山), which is a powerful emetic and is hepatotoxic. This must not be prepared.** The entry is kept for the record of how the chapter reasoned, not as something to dispense. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
