Translation

Treats blood lost in birth, engendering internal heat with vexation and thirst. Korean angelica, prepared rehmannia, white peony, ginseng, and ophiopogon, 1 don each; cinnamon bark 5 fun. Cut the above and make one packet. First decoct 1 hop of polished rice and 10 green bamboo leaves in two cups of water down to one cup; remove the rice and leaves, then add the medicines with 3 slices of ginger and 2 jujubes, decoct again, and take. — Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Buin)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The vehicle is prepared first and separately — rice and bamboo leaves decocted, strained, and the medicines added to that liquid. It is the same construction as White Tiger plus Ginseng, adapted for a woman who has lost blood rather than sweated it out: the rice protects the stomach, the bamboo leaves cool, and the Four Substances rebuild what the birth spent. The pinch of cinnamon keeps a formula this cool from chilling a postpartum patient. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
