Translation

Treats vacuity thirst after birth. Trichosanthes root 2 don; ginseng and ophiopogon, 1.5 don each; prepared rehmannia 1 don; licorice 5 fun. Cut the above, make one packet, add 100 grains of glutinous rice, 3 slices of ginger, and 2 jujubes, decoct in water and take. — Deukhyo 得效 (Donguibogam · Buin)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Trichosanthes root at chief's rank is the tradition's most direct fluid-engendering herb, and the hundred grains of glutinous rice in the pot are doing the same job by another route. The formula is short and gentle by design: after a birth the chapter treats thirst as emptiness rather than heat, so nothing here is cold — it simply fills. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
