Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治産後發熱. 生地黃 三錢, 赤芍藥ㆍ當歸ㆍ川芎 各一錢半. 右剉, 作一貼, 水煎服. 《袖珍》

Translation

Treats postpartum heat effusion. Raw rehmannia 3 don; red peony, Korean angelica, and cnidium, 1.5 don each. Cut the above, make one packet, decoct in water and take. — Sujin 袖珍 (Donguibogam · Buin)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Four herbs: the Four Substances with raw rehmannia in place of the prepared and red peony in place of the white — the smallest possible change that turns a Blood-building formula into a Blood-cooling one. That substitution is the tradition's standard maneuver, and this is its clearest demonstration, on a shelf where the alternatives run to a dozen ingredients. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
