Treats the spleen vacuous and cold, with abdominal pain and diarrhoea. Tangerine peel 1 nyang; green tangerine peel, chebula flesh and licorice (mix-fried) 5 don each; clove 2 don. Powder them and take 2 or 3 don at a time decocted in water; or cut up 5 don for one packet, which also serves. Also called Supplement the Spleen Powder. — Haejang 海藏 (Donguibogam · Bi)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Qian Yi's paediatric formula — the Haejang has it from him — and the tradition's standing remedy for a child's cold diarrhoea. Yellow is the spleen's colour, and 益黃, boosting the yellow, is supplementing the spleen. Chebula holds the bowel and clove warms it; the two peels keep the holding from binding. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
