Two Solstices Pill
Iji-hwan

Pill formula, bulk amounts: powdered and bound with honey into pills the size of parasol-tree seeds; 80–100 pills with salted water or warm wine. The name Two Solstices takes its meaning from Yang engendering at the winter solstice and Yin engendering at the summer solstice. Also called Jowondaja-bang 調元多子方 — 'taken by husband and wife together, its effect is uncanny' (Jimnyak 集略). Note on modern practice: tiger shin bone is prohibited under CITES and U.S. law; contemporary prescribing omits it. Distinct from the simpler two-herb Er Zhi Wan (eclipta and ligustrum) of later tradition.

Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑
治虛勞氣血兩傷, 滋陰降火. 熟地黃ㆍ龜板ㆍ白朮ㆍ黃柏 各三兩, 生地黃ㆍ山茱萸ㆍ當歸ㆍ知母 各二兩, 兎絲子ㆍ肉蓯蓉ㆍ黃芪ㆍ牛膝ㆍ枸杞子ㆍ破故紙ㆍ五味子ㆍ白芍藥ㆍ虎脛骨ㆍ白茯苓ㆍ杜沖ㆍ山藥ㆍ陳皮ㆍ人參 各一兩. 右爲末, 蜜丸梧子大. 鹽湯, 或溫酒下八十丸至百丸, 名二至者, 取冬至陽生, 夏至陰生之義也. 《入門》 ○一名調元多子方, 夫婦皆服, 其效如神. 《集略》
Translation
Treats vacuity taxation with Qi and Blood both damaged; enriches Yin and downbears fire. Prepared rehmannia, tortoise plastron, white atractylodes, and phellodendron, 3 nyang each; raw rehmannia, cornus, Korean angelica, and anemarrhena, 2 nyang each; cuscuta, cistanche, astragalus, achyranthes, lycium fruit, psoralea, schisandra, white peony, tiger shin bone, white poria, eucommia, dioscorea, tangerine peel, and ginseng, 1 nyang each. Powder the above and bind with honey into pills the size of parasol-tree seeds; take 80 to 100 pills with salted water or warm wine. It is named Two Solstices after the engendering of Yang at the winter solstice and of Yin at the summer solstice.
