Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治死血作心痛. 玄胡索一兩半, 桂心ㆍ紅花ㆍ滑石ㆍ紅麴各五錢, 桃仁三十枚. 右爲末, 湯浸蒸餠和丸梧子大, 醋湯下五七十丸. 《入門》

Translation

Treats heart pain made by dead blood. Corydalis 1 nyang 5 don; cinnamon heartwood, safflower, talc and red yeast rice 5 don each; peach kernel 30. Powder them, bind with steamed bread soaked in hot water into pills the size of a firmiana seed, and take fifty to seventy with vinegar decoction. — Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Hyung)

Clinical commentary 臨床

紅麴 — red yeast rice, which the tradition uses to move blood and which is now known to contain monacolin K, the compound marketed as lovastatin. It is one of the few medicinals in the Bogam with a drug named after it. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
