Powdered and made into one dose, stirred into warm wine — and it comes down in a short while. **Note on modern practice: musk is a protected animal product and contemporary preparations substitute synthetic musk (muscone), as in Gongjin-dan and Uhwangcheongsim-won. Intrauterine fetal demise is managed today under obstetric care; recorded as classical text.**

Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

下死胎. 桂心 三錢, 麝香 半錢. 右爲末, 作一貼, 溫酒調下, 須臾卽下. 《正傳》

Translation

Brings down a dead fetus. Cinnamon heart 3 don; musk half a don. Powder the pair and make one dose, stirred into warm wine — and in a short while it comes down. — Jeongjeon 正傳 (Donguibogam · Buin)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The same pair as Gyehyang-hwan in a different form and a different proportion — cinnamon heart rather than bark, a powder in warm wine rather than a pill in water, and a much smaller total dose. The difference is speed: pills release slowly, a powder in wine does not. The source's phrase is 須臾卽下 — in a short while it comes down — which is the closest thing to a stated onset time anywhere in this chapter. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
