和痛湯

Cut and made into one packet, decocted in a bowl of water with half a bowl each of child's urine and clear wine. **Note on modern practice: pain, heavy bleeding, or fever after a miscarriage requires prompt medical evaluation — retained products and infection are treatable and should not be managed at home.** Child's urine (童便) is shown as recorded; contemporary preparation uses wine and water alone.

Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治小産心腹痛. 當歸ㆍ川芎ㆍ白芍藥(酒炒)ㆍ熟地黃各一錢三分, 玄胡索一錢, 澤蘭ㆍ香附子ㆍ靑皮各八分, 桃仁ㆍ紅花各五分. 右剉, 作一貼, 以水一鍾, 童便ㆍ淸酒各半鍾, 煎服. 《醫鑑》

Translation

Treats pain of the heart region and abdomen after a miscarriage. Korean angelica, cnidium, wine-fried white peony, and prepared rehmannia, 1 don 3 fun each; corydalis 1 don; lycopus, cyperus, and green tangerine peel, 8 fun each; peach kernel and safflower, 5 fun each. Cut the above, make one packet, and decoct in a bowl of water with half a bowl each of child's urine and clear wine. — Uigam 醫鑑 (Donguibogam · Buin)

Clinical commentary 臨床

A formula for a situation the chapter otherwise passes over quickly, and its construction is careful in a way that reads as considered rather than routine: the Four Substances at full dose to rebuild what a loss has spent, and only small measures of peach kernel and safflower to move out what remains.
