Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治先大便後下血. 竈中黃土三錢, 熟地黃ㆍ白朮ㆍ附子(炮)ㆍ阿膠珠ㆍ黃芩ㆍ甘草(灸) 各一錢. 右剉, 作一貼, 水煎服. 《仲景》

Translation

Treats stool first and blood after. Stove earth 3 don; cooked rehmannia, white atractylodes, aconite (blast-fried), ass-hide glue beads, scutellaria and licorice (mix-fried) 1 don each. Cut up, make one packet, decoct in water and take. — Junggyeong 仲景 (Donguibogam · Hyeol)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Zhongjing's formula from the Jingui, and one of the tradition's most-cited. Stove earth to stanch, aconite and atractylodes to warm the spleen that has lost its hold on the blood, and one cold medicinal — scutellaria — so the warming does not itself drive blood out. 先大便後下血 — stool first, blood after — is the Jingui's 遠血, distant bleeding: the blood has come from high in the tract and is mixed through the stool.
