Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治君火旣動, 而相火隨之, 而精泄. 黃連ㆍ生地黃ㆍ當歸ㆍ甘草ㆍ茯神ㆍ酸棗仁ㆍ遠志ㆍ人參ㆍ蓮肉各等分. 右剉, 五錢, 水煎服. 《入門》

Translation

Treats the sovereign fire having stirred and the ministerial fire following it, with the essence leaking. Coptis, fresh rehmannia, angelica, licorice, poria with pine root, spiny jujube kernel, polygala, ginseng and lotus seed in equal parts. Cut up, 5 don, decoct in water and take. — Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Jeong)

Clinical commentary 臨床

君火旣動, 而相火隨之 — the sovereign fire stirs and the ministerial follows. The Fire chapter's two fires, and the sequence: the heart wants first, and the kidney answers. The formula treats the heart — coptis to cool it, poria-with-pine-root and jujube kernel and polygala to settle it — because that is where the sequence began.
