Treats heart fire with sores arising on the tongue, or the tongue swollen, dry and cracked, or bleeding at the tip, or the tongue hard. Coptis (wine-fried), gardenia (stir-fried), fresh rehmannia (wine-washed), ophiopogon, angelica (wine-washed) and red peony 1 don each; rhinoceros horn, mint and licorice 5 pun each. Cut up, make one packet, decoct in water and take after food. — Manbyeong Hoechun 回春 (Donguibogam · Guseol)

Clinical commentary 臨床

3.16 makes the tongue the heart's sprout, so four different tongue complaints get one heart-cooling formula. A bleeding tongue tip is the sign the chapter treats most seriously. **Rhinoceros horn is CITES Appendix I and banned; it must be omitted.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
