Translation

Treats lodged accumulation aggregated below the abdomen and ribside, with one-sided distension and swelling fullness which does not interfere with food and drink, and which no other medicine can cure. Curcuma, dried fresh ginger, tangerine peel, green tangerine peel, clove bark, fennel (stir-fried) and licorice (mix-fried) 5 don each; amomum, cinnamon heart and costus 2.5 don each; pepper and aloeswood 1 don 1 ja each. Powder them and take 2 don at a time, stirred into a decoction of fresh ginger, perilla leaf and a little salt. — Seui Deukhyobang 得效 (Donguibogam · Jeokchwi)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Twelve warm aromatics and nothing that breaks a mass, which matches the indication precisely: the accumulation does not interfere with eating, so there is nothing obstructing to remove, and what is treated is the qi that has settled where it should not. 不妨飮食 — it does not interfere with food and drink — is the diagnostic hinge for the whole section, taken directly from the Neijing passage at 1.12, and it separates lodged accumulation from every other accumulation in the chapter. Note the 一字 measure, a quarter of a don, used for the two most expensive medicinals. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
