Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治虛勞, 羸瘦, 痰嗽, 鬼疰. 紫河車一具(製如上法), 人參一兩半, 熟地黃ㆍ當歸ㆍ白朮ㆍ茯神各一兩, 木香ㆍ白茯苓各五錢, 乳香ㆍ沒藥各四錢, 朱砂二錢, 麝香二分. 右爲末, 酒糊和丸梧子大. 人參湯下五十丸.

Translation

Treats vacuity taxation with wasting, phlegm cough, and corpse infixation. One placenta, prepared as in the method above; ginseng 1 nyang 5 don; prepared rehmannia, Korean angelica, white atractylodes, and hostwood poria, 1 nyang each; aucklandia and white poria, 5 don each; frankincense and myrrh, 4 don each; cinnabar 2 don; musk 2 fun. Clinical commentary 臨床

The plainer companion to Taesanghonwon-dan, and its indication carries a word worth pausing on: 鬼疰, corpse infixation, the classical name for an illness that passes from one member of a household to the next until it has taken several. What the chapter is describing is consumption, observed as contagious centuries before the bacillus was found — and answered with a restorative, because building the patient up was the only intervention available.
