Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治溫毒發癍. 生地黃二兩六錢半, 好豉一兩六錢半, 猪膏十兩. 右合煎, 令三分減一, 絞去滓, 入雄黃ㆍ麝香各一分, 爲末和勻, 再煎, 分三服, 白湯化下. 其毒從皮中出卽愈. 《入門》

Translation

Treats warm-toxin macular eruption. Raw rehmannia 2 nyang 6 don 5 pun; good fermented soybean 1 nyang 6 don 5 pun; lard 10 nyang. Boil them together until reduced by a third, strain and press out the dregs, stir in powdered realgar and musk 1 pun each, and boil again; divide into three doses and take dissolved in hot water. The toxin comes out through the skin and recovery follows. — Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Pi)

Clinical commentary 臨床

A medicated fat rather than a decoction — rehmannia and fermented soybean simmered down in ten nyang of lard, strained, and the realgar and musk stirred into the strained fat. It is taken by mouth dissolved in hot water, and the stated mechanism is that the toxin leaves through the skin, which is why a greasy vehicle was chosen. **Contains realgar, an arsenic sulphide, taken internally, and musk from a CITES-listed species.
