Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治咳嗽失音, 聲不出. 杏仁泥ㆍ白蜜ㆍ砂糖屑ㆍ生薑汁 各一盞, 桑白皮ㆍ木通ㆍ貝母(炒) 各一兩半, 紫菀ㆍ五味子 各一兩, 石菖蒲 五錢. 右六味剉, 以水五升煎至半升, 去滓, 入杏ㆍ蜜ㆍ糖ㆍ薑再煎成稀膏, 每取一匙含化嚥下. 或加知母ㆍ款冬花尤效. 《直指》

Translation

Treats cough with loss of voice, the voice not coming out. Apricot-kernel paste, white honey, sugar shavings and ginger juice one jan each; mulberry root bark, akebia and fritillaria (stir-fried) 1 nyang 5 don each; aster and schisandra 1 nyang each; acorus 5 don. Cut up the six dry medicinals and boil in five seung of water down to half a seung; strain off the dregs, add the apricot, honey, sugar and ginger, and boil again to a thin paste. Take a spoonful at a time, let it melt in the mouth and swallow. Anemarrhena and coltsfoot may be added, which is better still. — Jikji 直指 (Donguibogam · Seongeum)

Clinical commentary 臨床

A linctus — boiled to a thin paste and melted in the mouth rather than swallowed as a draught, so that it stays on the throat it is treating. 含化嚥下 is the delivery the whole chapter prefers for the voice, and four of its formulas use it. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
