Translation

Treats small intestine and bladder qi pain. Corydalis 1 nyang; toosendan flesh and fennel (stir-fried) 5 don each; the first powder of white morning-glory seed (stir-fried), Korean angelica, lesser galangal, green tangerine peel, saussurea and lindera 2 don 5 pun each; seven whole scorpions dried over a low fire. Powder them, bind with steamed cake soaked in ginger juice into pills the size of parasol-tree seeds, and send thirty to fifty down with wine stirred with the ash of burnt cotton wool. — Jikji 直指 (Donguibogam · Jeoneum)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Corydalis at twice the weight of anything else, which makes it a pain formula before it is a mounting formula. The draught is the oddity: wine stirred with the ash of burnt cotton, an astringent carrier the Jikji uses to hold the pills down where they are wanted rather than to add any action of its own. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
