Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治熱痰壅盛失音, 聲不出. 是燥熱所致, 用此卽效. 川芎ㆍ細辛ㆍ防風ㆍ桔梗ㆍ白芷ㆍ羌活ㆍ桑白皮各一錢, 甘草五分. 右剉, 作一貼, 入薑二片, 水煎服. 《得效》

Translation

Treats heat phlegm congested and exuberant with loss of voice, the voice not coming out. This comes of dryness and heat, and using this is at once effective. Chuanxiong, asarum, saposhnikovia, platycodon, angelica dahurica, notopterygium and mulberry root bark 1 don each; licorice 5 pun. Cut up, make one packet, add 2 slices of ginger, decoct in water and take. — Seui Deukhyobang 得效 (Donguibogam · Seongeum)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Almost all of it is acrid and dispersing, for a phlegm the chapter says is dry — the Deukhyo's reasoning is that dry heat has glued the phlegm in place and only opening will shift it. Mulberry root bark is the one cooling medicinal in it. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
