Translation

Treats stomach reflux where no other medicine has worked. Take one yellow male dog, starve it for several days and feed it raw millet; take the millet out of its droppings and wash it clean, decoct leek white and boil the millet in that liquid into a gruel; as it finishes add 2 don of aquilaria and powdered Level the Stomach Powder, mix it to the right consistency, and make pills the size of a paulownia seed. Fifty to seventy pills each time, taken down with old rice water. — Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Guto)

Clinical commentary 臨床

**Made from millet recovered from dog faeces. This must not be prepared.** Washing does not make faecal material safe: it carries Escherichia coli, Salmonella, Campylobacter and dog roundworm among others, and it is being given to a patient who is already unable to keep food down. The idea behind it is visible and almost reasonable — grain that has passed through a dog and come out whole has been, in the thinking of the time, half-digested by a strong stomach, and so might be digestible by a weak one. 諸藥不效, where no other medicine has worked, says where in the sequence of treatments it came. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
