Translation

Treats summerheat injury with a sudden violent diarrhoea. Stir-fried medicated leaven and prepared atractylodes, equal parts. Powder, make pills with wheat-flour paste the size of a paulownia seed, and take thirty to fifty on an empty stomach in rice water. — Gukbang 局方 (Donguibogam · Daebyeon)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Two drugs: a digestive ferment and a drying aromatic, for the summer diarrhoea that follows spoiled food. It is the simplest formula in the section and the most likely to have been used, being cheap, keepable as pills and aimed at the commonest cause of an August diarrhoea. Neither drug is antimicrobial; what the pair does is settle the stomach and speed the clearance of a load the gut has refused. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
