Translation

Treats abiding food and retained rheum in the middle duct — sour stinging heart pain, the teeth also set sour, perhaps vomiting of clear water, and belching of stale rotten Qi. Dry-fried medicated leaven 3 nyang; earth-fried atractylodes 1.5 nyang; tangerine peel and amomum, 1 nyang each. Powder the above and bind with a leaven paste steeped in ginger juice into pills the size of parasol-tree seeds; take 70–90 pills with a ginger decoction. — Jeongjeon 正傳 (Donguibogam · Naesang)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The acid section's opening answer, aimed at the cause rather than the taste — leaven at triple rank to finish digesting what stalled and soured, atractylodes to dry the wetland it fermented in. Treat the brewery, not the brew. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
