Translation

Treats intestinal wind, visceral toxin, fistulous piles and blood in the stool — divinely effective. Sophora flower (stir-fried) and coptis (wine-fried) 4 nyang each. Powder them, put the powder into a cheok of pig's large intestine and tie it off; boil it soft in water with 2 geun of leek, discard the leek, take the intestine, pound it with the medicine until soft and make pills the size of a firmiana seed; take eighty or ninety with rice water on an empty stomach. — Gogeum Uigam 醫鑑 (Donguibogam · Hueum)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The medicine cooked inside a length of pig's gut and then pounded in with it. The chapter does this three times over — here, and in Donwi-hwan and Hwalgwi-hwan — on the principle that like goes to like, the intestine carrying the medicine to the intestine. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
