Translation

Treats a woman with the genitals swollen hard as stone and pain that cannot be borne, neither stool nor urine passing, close to death. Tangerine peel and bitter orange 4 nyang each, stir-fried until fragrant and hot, put into silk bags and divided into two bundles. Iron the whole body with them from the top downward and over the swollen genitals, again and again; when one cools, change it for the warm one. The sign of effect is the taste of bitter orange in the throat. — Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Jeoneum)

Clinical commentary 臨床

No draught at all — two qi-moving peels dry-fried, bagged in silk and used as a hot press, worked downward over the whole body. The endpoint is the strangest and most precise instruction in the chapter: the treatment is finished when the patient tastes bitter orange in her throat, which is read as the qi having been moved through from skin to interior. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
