Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

專治氣膨. 薑黃ㆍ靑皮各一兩, 木香ㆍ丁香ㆍ胡椒ㆍ全蝎ㆍ肉豆蔲(煨) 各五錢. 右爲末, 蘿葍子二兩爛硏, 和勻, 用紅酒, 生薑汁各少許煮, 糊和丸梧子大. 以紫蘇葉ㆍ陳皮, 煎湯下四五十丸. 《得效》

Translation

Treats qi swelling specifically. Turmeric and green tangerine peel 1 nyang each; costus, clove, pepper, scorpion and nutmeg (roasted) 5 don each. Powder them; grind 2 nyang of radish seed to a pulp and work it in evenly, boil with a little red wine and ginger juice, and make paste pills the size of a firmiana seed. Take forty or fifty down with a decoction of perilla leaf and tangerine peel. — Seui Deukhyobang 得效 (Donguibogam · Changman)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The name says the qi is to be needled — punctured rather than coaxed. Everything in it is warm and acrid except the radish seed, which is the largest single ingredient at two nyang and works by downbearing rather than warming. Scorpion in a distension formula is unusual and marks this as aimed at qi that has bound hard rather than merely stagnated. **Contains scorpion, which is toxic.
