Snatch Away Taxation Powder

Geomno-san

한글 겁로산 · Pinyin Jie Lao San

刧勞散

The chapter gives the indication only and refers the composition elsewhere: the transcription reads 方見入門 while the first edition reads 方見虛勞, the Taxation chapter, and the first edition supplies the 心 that the transcription drops from 丹心. No composition for this formula appears anywhere in the transcription, so the ingredient list is left empty rather than filled from an outside text.

Donguibogam

Translation

Treats heart and kidney both vacuous, with a taxation cough of two or three sounds and no phlegm, fever coming on at night which turns cold when it has passed, intermittent night sweats, weary limbs, reduced appetite, and a sallow, wasted body. This medicine can treat a slight cough with a red thread in the spittle, which is called wilting lung; left untreated it becomes a disease of emaciation. the formula is given in the Immun ○ Dansim — Dangye Simbeop 丹心 (Donguibogam · Haesu)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The indication is the most complete description of phthisis in the chapter: a short dry cough of two or three sounds, night fever followed by chill, night sweats, exhaustion, loss of appetite, wasting, and a thread of blood in the spittle. Taken together those are the classic features of pulmonary tuberculosis, and the chapter's warning — 若不治便成羸劣之疾, left untreated it becomes a disease of emaciation — was accurate. 刧, to snatch away, is the chapter's word for a medicine that takes an illness by force rather than by degrees; 3.15 喘嗽刧藥 collects the other formulas of that kind. **A patient with a chronic cough, night sweats, fever and weight loss needs testing for tuberculosis.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
