Sweet Dew Drink (Children)

Gamno-eum

한글 감로음  ·  Pinyin Gan Lu Yin

甘露飮

The transcription writes 欝金, normalized to 鬱金. A formula of the same name is already registered from the Hwaje Gukbang as a clinic entry — ten drugs built on two rehmannias and two -mundongs, for Stomach Yin deficiency with mouth ulcers — and shares nothing with this leaf but licorice. By house rule the clinic entry keeps the bare id and this Bogam leaf takes the chapter tail.

Clinical commentary 臨床

Five drugs in equal parts, of which two are cooling minerals and one is mint; the whole thing is a cooling dusting powder let down in mint water. 鬱金 is the only drug here with any claim to act on anything other than temperature. 潮熱, tidal fever, is a pattern name rather than a cause: a fever that comes and goes at a set hour. Read against what is actually in front of the practitioner, it covers almost everything — the remittent fever of a viral illness, the swinging fever of a collection of pus, the evening fever of tuberculosis, malaria. The taxonomy cannot separate those, and the cooling powder is the same in each case. See the chapter prose at 1.41 for the taxonomy and why what matters in a child is the cause rather than the height. **Contains calcitum and gypsum, minerals given internally to an infant, and the text gives no dose by weight anywhere. This must not be prepared.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
