Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治氣虛喘急, 飮食不進; 又治喘嗽ㆍ飮酒必發者. 卽參苓白朮散<span class='sochu'>方見內傷</span>加陳皮ㆍ半夏各一錢. 右作一服, 入薑三片ㆍ桑白皮七寸, 同煎服. 《得效》

Translation

Treats qi vacuity with urgent panting and no appetite for food and drink; it also treats panting cough that is certain to break out after drinking wine. That is, Ginseng, Poria and White Atractylodes Powder<span class='sochu'>the formula is given in the Inward Damage chapter</span> with tangerine peel and pinellia, 1 don each, added. Make one dose, add three slices of ginger and seven inches of mulberry root bark, and decoct together. — Sejong Jeungbo Deukhyobang 得效 (Donguibogam · Haesu)

Clinical commentary 臨床

A supplementing base with two phlegm drugs put on top, and the indication tells you why: a patient short of breath who is also not eating. The chapter's usual panting formulas drain, and draining such a patient makes him worse; this one feeds him and clears a little phlegm. 飮酒必發者 — panting certain to break out after wine — is a specific observation and a good one. Alcohol-provoked wheeze is real, and the chapter treats it as a phlegm-and-damp problem in a weak patient rather than as a heat one. **Contains pinellia, toxic in the raw state and to be properly processed.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
