Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治偏墜氣初起, 壯熱憎寒, 乃發表分利藥也, 一服而愈. 枳殼ㆍ陳皮ㆍ香附子ㆍ蒼朮ㆍ麻黃ㆍ猪苓ㆍ澤瀉ㆍ木通ㆍ滑石ㆍ車前子ㆍ三稜ㆍ蓬朮ㆍ川練子ㆍ玄胡索ㆍ甘草各七分. 右剉, 作一貼, 入生薑三片ㆍ葱白二莖, 水煎服. 《醫鑑》

Translation

Treats one-sided sagging qi newly arisen with strong fever and aversion to cold; this is a medicine to effuse the exterior and divide and free, and one dose heals it. Bitter orange, tangerine peel, cyperus, atractylodes lancea, ephedra, polyporus, alisma, akebia, talc, plantago seed, sparganium, zedoary, toosendan, corydalis and licorice 7 pun each. Cut up, make one packet, add 3 slices of fresh ginger and 2 stalks of scallion white, decoct in water and take. — Gogeum Uigam 醫鑑 (Donguibogam · Jeoneum)

Clinical commentary 臨床

壯熱憎寒 — strong fever with shivering. A testicular swelling that comes on acutely with fever is an infection, and the Uigam's instinct to treat it as an exterior pattern — open the surface and drain the urine — is at least the right urgency. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
