Clinical commentary 臨床

Tao Hua's composite answer to the two late patterns that follow a fever: lily disease, where the patient cannot be said to be ill and cannot be said to be well, and relapse from getting up too soon. Lily bulb is the specific — the pattern is named after it — and vinegar-boiled turtle shell reaches the heat that has gone into the yin. Around them sits a reduced Minor Bupleurum: bupleurum, scutellaria, ginseng, licorice, ginger and dates, which is the formula for a heat caught halfway in and halfway out. Anemarrhena and fresh rehmannia for the fluids. It is a convalescent formula and treats a patient who looks much better than they feel. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
