Clinical commentary 臨床

Red dysentery means blood in the stool, and this is the chapter's most straightforward answer to it: sanguisorba and sophora flower to stop the bleeding, coptis and scutellaria for the heat, tangkuei and peony to move and nourish the blood, ass-hide glue to hold it. Sanguisorba is tannin-rich and genuinely haemostatic on contact, and the berberine drugs have real activity against Shigella; for an acute bacillary dysentery this is one of the more defensible formulas in the book. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
