Donguibogam

Translation

Treats all obstructing screens. Snake slough washed and dried over a low fire, cicada slough and coptis 5 don each; raw licorice 2 don; mung bean hulls 1 nyang. Grind to a coarse powder and take 2 don at a time decocted in water, after food. — Jikji 直指 (Donguibogam · An)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Five ingredients and mung bean hulls the heaviest of them — a cheap, cooling, gently detoxifying formula with the two sloughs for the screen. Ground coarse rather than fine, because it is decocted rather than swallowed; the name credits a Daoist, which is how the Jikji marks something it had from outside the medical tradition. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
