Translation

Treats a heat-repletion chest bind. Rhubarb, 5 don; parched lepidium seed and parched apricot kernel, 3 don each; mirabilite, 2 don 5 fun; kansui, two ja 字. Powder, make honey pills the size of a bullet, and for each dose decoct one pill in a cup of water down to six parts and take warm. If there is no purging, take again. — Dansim 丹心 (Donguibogam · Han, lower)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The same bind as the decoction, but higher in the chest and reached more slowly. Lepidium seed and apricot kernel are the additions, and both work on the lung — this is for the bind that pulls the neck stiff because it sits up under the diaphragm, where a purgative driven straight through the bowel would pass beneath it. Honey pills decocted whole release over hours instead of minutes, which is the whole reason for the pill form: Zhongjing wanted the drug to sit at the level of the obstruction. Kansui again, and again a formula to read rather than make. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
