Translation

Treats the uvula hanging down swollen and painful, and any disease of the throat. Bluestone, alum, saltpetre, borneol, sophora subprostrata, cinnabar and chicken gizzard lining (baked). Powder very fine and blow a little into the throat through a bamboo tube, and it answers. — Manbyeong Hoechun 回春 (Donguibogam · Inhu)

Clinical commentary 臨床

山豆根 — sophora subprostrata, the tradition's specific for a sore throat and almost unused elsewhere. It is bitter, cold and genuinely anti-inflammatory, and it is the one medicinal here doing recognizable work. **Contains bluestone and cinnabar, both toxic. For external use only.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
