Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治懸雍腫痛垂長. 玄參一兩, 升麻ㆍ射干ㆍ大黃(酒洗) 各五錢, 甘草(灸) 二錢半. 右剉五錢, 水煎微溫, 時時含嚥. 《類聚》

Translation

Treats the uvula swollen, painful and hanging long. Scrophularia 1 nyang; cimicifuga, belamcanda and rhubarb (wine-washed) 5 don each; licorice (mix-fried) 2 don 5 pun. Cut 5 don, decoct in water, and while slightly warm hold it in the mouth and swallow from time to time. — Yuchwi 類聚 (Donguibogam · Inhu)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Belamcanda is the throat's own medicinal in the Bogam and appears in the simples at 5.26 for exactly this. Held in the mouth rather than drunk, so it works on the swelling on the way down. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
