Translation

Treats much forgetting; taken long, one becomes able to recite a thousand words in a day. Hostwood poria, polygala (soaked in licorice water, the core removed, and processed with ginger juice), and acorus, in equal parts. Cut the above; take 3 don each time decocted in water — or powder it and take 2 don stirred into brewed tea, three times daily. — Jonghaeng 種杏 (Donguibogam · Sin)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Three herbs, equal weight, and no tonic among them — this is not a formula that adds anything so much as one that clears the path. Hostwood poria settles, polygala connects Heart and Kidney, acorus opens the orifices. Its promise is the most charming in the chapter, and its enduring popularity in Korea as a study preparation rests on the same reasoning: memory fails when the passage is clouded, not only when the substance is short. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
