Translation

Treats Heart Qi insufficiency, with sudden and heedless forgetting, spirit and ethereal soul unquiet, fright palpitations and timid fear, and troubled, inauspicious dreaming. Ginseng, white poria, and hostwood poria, 3 nyang each; acorus and prepared polygala, 2 nyang each; cinnabar 1 nyang, half worked into the mass and half used as a coating. Powder the above and bind with honey into pills the size of parasol-tree seeds; take 50 pills with thin rice water. — Donguibogam · Sin

Clinical commentary 臨床

The chapter's core spirit-settling pill, and its indication is a portrait rather than a symptom list: sudden forgetting, an unquiet spirit, startling easily, timid fear, and dreams that leave a bad taste. Ginseng and the two porias supply what is short; acorus and polygala open and connect. The name says what it does — it settles the will, meaning the faculty that holds a purpose in place. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
