Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治四時傷寒ㆍ傷風, 頭痛ㆍ體熱ㆍ煩渴. 麻黃二錢, 蒼朮ㆍ白朮ㆍ川芎各一錢半, 石膏ㆍ乾葛ㆍ甘草各七分半. 右剉, 作一貼, 入薑三片, 葱白二莖, 水煎服. 《局方》

Translation

Treats cold damage and wind damage of the four seasons, with headache, bodily heat and vexing thirst. Ephedra, 2 don; atractylodes lancea, atractylodes and chuanxiong, 1 don 5 fun each; gypsum, pueraria and licorice, 7 fun 5 ri each. Cut up, make one packet, add three slices of ginger and two stalks of scallion white, and decoct in water. — Gukbang 局方 (Donguibogam · Han)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Thirst in the indication is what separates this from the other exterior formulas of the section: a patient with a shut surface and a thirst already has heat behind the cold, so gypsum and pueraria are put in alongside the ephedra. Two don of ephedra against seven fun of gypsum is still an opening formula rather than a cooling one, and the two atractylodes are there for the damp a Jufang compiler expected to find with any fever.
