Translation

Treats cold malaria. Tsaoko, angelica dahurica, lesser galangal, green tangerine peel, cnidium, perilla leaf and licorice, 1 don each. Cut up, make one packet, and decoct in water and take. — Jikji 直指 (Donguibogam · Haehak)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Seven drugs at one weight, built around tsaoko and lesser galangal, with angelica dahurica, cnidium and perilla leaf giving it just enough reach to the surface to count as a malaria formula rather than a plain warmer of the middle. Green tangerine peel is the chapter's habitual addition wherever cold malaria has bound the qi in the flanks. Set beside Gwabu-tang it marks the milder end of the same indication. Where Gwabu-tang answers a cold deep enough to want aconite and reads the diagnosis off a green-blue face, this one stays with aromatics and treats cold malaria as a disorder of the middle that still has an outward edge. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
