Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治氣不升降, 上氣喘促. 便香附子四兩, 甘草(灸) 一兩二錢, 縮砂五錢, 沈香四錢. 右爲細末, 每服二錢, 以蘇鹽湯調下. 《正傳》

Translation

Treats the qi neither rising nor descending, with qi ascent and hurried panting. Cyperus (child-urine processed) 4 nyang; licorice (mix-fried) 1 nyang 2 don; amomum 5 don; aloeswood 4 don. Powder finely and take 2 don at a time stirred into perilla-and-salt decoction. — Jeongjeon 正傳 (Donguibogam · Gi)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Cyperus at ten times the aloeswood, and the aloeswood is still the chief — it is the heaviest of the aromatic woods and sinks, which is what the formula is for. The Fire chapter's 5.26 warns against it in the wrong patient; here the qi has risen and needs pulling down. 便香附子, cyperus steeped in child's urine, is the Uterus chapter's standard preparation for cyperus meant to go downward. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
