Translation

Treats the seven affects depressed and bound, with griping pain of the heart and abdomen. Pinellia (processed) 3 don; ginseng, cinnamon bark and licorice (mix-fried) 7 pun each. Cut up, add 3 slices of fresh ginger, decoct and take. — Hwaje Gukbang 局方 (Donguibogam · Gi)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Pinellia at four times anything else, and the reasoning is that the seven affects bind the qi into phlegm — the tradition's 七氣 is a phlegm condition as much as a qi one. Cinnamon warms what the binding has chilled; ginseng holds the centre. The Gukbang's original is the base of the more famous Sachil-tang below, which adds perilla and magnolia bark and drops the warming pair. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
