Clinical commentary 臨床

Ijin-tang with the four gentlemen half folded in and bamboo shavings, gardenia and ophiopogon added — ten drugs at an equal don. The name says clear heat, but only two of the ten are cold, and the formula is better read as Ijin-tang made safe for a patient with heat in the stomach. 出涎沫, frothy drool brought up, is the sign that distinguishes it from the other heat formulas here: what comes up is saliva and froth rather than food or sour fluid. **Contains pinellia, which is toxic in the raw state and must be properly processed before use.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
