Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

因痰火致嘔吐, 不下飮食. 白朮(土炒) 二錢, 黃芩ㆍ黃連(並土炒)ㆍ藿香ㆍ梔子(薑汁炒) 各一錢, 半夏ㆍ陳皮ㆍ赤茯苓各八分, 縮砂三分, 甘草二分. 右剉, 作一貼, 入薑三片, 以長流水和黃泥澄淸取水煎之, 去滓, 稍冷頻服. 《醫鑑》

Translation

For vomiting caused by phlegm fire, with food and drink not going down. White atractylodes fried with earth, 2 don; scutellaria and coptis both fried with earth, patchouli, and gardenia fried in ginger juice, 1 don each; pinellia, tangerine peel and red poria, 8 fun each; cardamom, 3 fun; licorice, 2 fun. Cut up, make one packet, add three slices of ginger, and decoct it in water drawn by stirring yellow clay into running water and letting it settle clear; strain, and give it slightly cooled and often. — Gogeum Uigam 醫鑑 (Donguibogam · Guto)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The counterpart to Gagamijung-tang on the hot side of the chapter's division: three drugs fried with earth to send them to the stomach, gardenia in ginger juice so that a cold drug can be kept down, and the Ijin-tang pair underneath for the phlegm. Both the vehicle and the manner of giving are part of the prescription — water settled off yellow clay, strained, cooled a little, and sipped often rather than drunk at once, which is the standard way of getting anything into a vomiting patient. **Contains pinellia, which is toxic in the raw state and must be properly processed before use.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
