Donguibogam

Translation

Treats vacuous heat of the Heart and Lung. Asparagus root, ophiopogon, and lotus seed, 1 nyang each; schisandra 5 don; granulated sugar 5 nyang; borneol 0.3 don. Powder the above, work with honey, and divide each nyang into twenty pills; hold in the mouth to dissolve and swallow. — Sokbang 俗方 (Donguibogam · Hwa)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The vacuous-fire clause rendered as nearly a candy — two asparagi and lotus seed in five ounces of sugar, borneol lending its cold sparkle. For the heat that comes from dryness, the treatment is sweetness itself: a Korean folk answer that Danxi's doctrine would endorse herb for herb. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
