Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治白帶. 當歸ㆍ川芎ㆍ白芍藥ㆍ生地黃(酒洗)ㆍ黃柏(鹽水炒)ㆍ貝母ㆍ樗根白皮(酒炒) 各一錢, 乾薑(炒黑)ㆍ甘草各五分. 右剉, 作一貼, 薑三片, 水煎服. 《醫鑑》

Translation

Treats white discharge. Angelica, chuanxiong, white peony, fresh rehmannia (wine-washed), phellodendron (salt-water fried), fritillaria and ailanthus root bark (wine-fried) 1 don each; dry ginger (fried black) and licorice 5 pun each. Cut up, make one packet, add 3 slices of ginger, decoct in water and take. — Gogeum Uigam 醫鑑 (Donguibogam · Po)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Samul-tang with ailanthus root bark, which is registered in this database from this entry. Ailanthus bark is bitter and astringent and is the standing medicinal for damp heat discharge — it dries and binds at once. 炒黑, fried black, is the processing that turns dry ginger from a warming medicinal into a staunching one.
