Translation

Treats withdrawal-mania with singing and laughing and going naked, heedless of water or fire. Round white pinellia, large arisaema, genuine iron powder, typhonium and notopterygium, 2 nyang each; large aconite (raw), 1 nyang 5 don; large cinnabar, bright red amber and silkworm, 1 nyang each; alum (calcined), 5 don; fifty scorpions; gold leaf, thirty leaves. Powder them and take 4 don at a dose, stirred into the juice pressed from 4 nyang of fresh ginger; if the pungency is disliked, add a little warm water. The Bonsabang says: iron powder does not only transform phlegm and settle the heart — it is singular in crushing and curbing liver evil. Where there is much vexation and anger and the liver evil is too exuberant, iron powder can subdue it. The Inner Classic saying that yang reversal with angry mania is treated with iron filings is this. — Deukhyo 得效 (Donguibogam · Sin)

Clinical commentary 臨床

**This must not be prepared.** Raw aconite at 1 nyang 5 don with cinnabar and fifty scorpions. The appended note is the interesting part: the Bonsabang defends iron not as a phlegm medicine but as a weight against liver evil, and cites the Suwen's 生鐵洛 for angry mania — the same passage the chapter opens 5.14 with. 歌笑裸體, 不避水火 is the clinical picture, and it is the Immun's severe grade of mania. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
