Translation

Treats phlegm-rheum amassed at the heart and stomach with fearful throbbing that will not stop. Pinellia (processed), red poria, poria spirit, ophiopogon and tangerine peel (white pith removed), 1 nyang each; aquilaria shavings, areca and licorice, 5 don each. Cut up and decoct 7 don at a time with five slices of ginger. — Deukhyo 得效 (Donguibogam · Sin)

Clinical commentary 臨床

**沉香, aquilaria, is a CITES-listed species and is not to be used.** Leaving it out, the formula is 二陳湯 widened — pinellia, two porias, tangerine peel and licorice — with 麥門冬 to protect the fluids and 檳榔 to carry the downbearing lower. It is the formula for the throbbing that 5.10 attributes to water below the heart rather than to a depleted spirit. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
