Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治勞心吐血. 白芍藥二錢, 熟地黃一錢半, 當歸一錢三分, 川芎ㆍ白茯苓ㆍ人參ㆍ前胡ㆍ半夏各七分, 陳皮ㆍ枳殼ㆍ䓀莄ㆍ乾葛ㆍ紫蘇葉ㆍ甘草各五分. 右剉, 作一貼, 薑五片, 棗二枚, 煎服. 《三因》

Translation

Treats vomiting of blood from taxation of the heart. White peony 2 don; cooked rehmannia 1 don 5 pun; angelica 1 don 3 pun; chuanxiong, white poria, ginseng, peucedanum and pinellia 7 pun each; tangerine peel, bitter orange, platycodon, dried pueraria, perilla leaf and licorice 5 pun each. Cut up, make one packet, add 5 slices of ginger and 2 jujubes, decoct and take. — Samin 三因 (Donguibogam · Hyeol)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Samul-tang and Samso-eum combined — a blood supplement with a mild exterior-releasing formula folded in — and the Women chapter sends its readers here three times, for postpartum fever, loss of speech and tidal fever. This is the formula's home entry. 勞心, taxation of the heart, means overwork of the mind, and the tradition held that it burned the blood.
