Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

一名救脉散. 治虛勞吐血. 人參ㆍ黃芪ㆍ白芍藥ㆍ熟地黃ㆍ當歸梢各一錢, 升麻ㆍ柴胡ㆍ蒼朮ㆍ陳皮ㆍ蘇木ㆍ甘草(灸) 各五分. 右剉, 作一貼, 水煎服. 《東垣》

Translation

Also called Rescue the Vessels Powder. Treats vomiting of blood in vacuity taxation. Ginseng, astragalus, white peony, cooked rehmannia and angelica tail 1 don each; cimicifuga, bupleurum, atractylodes lancea, tangerine peel, sappan and licorice (mix-fried) 5 pun each. Cut up, make one packet, decoct in water and take. — Dongwon 東垣 (Donguibogam · Hyeol)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Dongwon's Bojungikgi-tang bent toward the blood — the same lifting pair of cimicifuga and bupleurum, but with peony and rehmannia added and sappan to keep the blood from standing. Angelica tail rather than body, because the tail moves and the body only nourishes. The reasoning is Dongwon's throughout: blood that is vomited in a depleted patient is blood the qi could not hold, and the treatment lifts the qi. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
