Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治子腫. 當歸ㆍ川芎ㆍ白芍藥ㆍ熟地黃ㆍ白朮ㆍ赤茯苓ㆍ澤瀉ㆍ條芩ㆍ梔子(炒)ㆍ麥門冬ㆍ厚朴ㆍ甘草各七分. 右剉作一貼, 薑五片, 水煎服. 《醫鑑》

Translation

Treats child swelling. Angelica, chuanxiong, white peony, cooked rehmannia, white atractylodes, red poria, alisma, slender scutellaria, gardenia (stir-fried), ophiopogon, magnolia bark and licorice 7 pun each. Cut up, make one packet, add 5 slices of ginger, decoct in water and take. — Gogeum Uigam 醫鑑 (Donguibogam · Buin)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Samul-tang with the percolating group and two cold medicinals, all at an even 7 pun. The chapter reads oedema in pregnancy as damp that the spleen cannot move rather than as a disease of the kidney, which is why white atractylodes sits with the poria and alisma. **Oedema in pregnancy with headache, visual disturbance or upper abdominal pain suggests pre-eclampsia and requires urgent assessment.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
