Translation

Treats liver wind internal obstruction with neither pain nor itching, the eyes seeing five flowers or one object as two. Antelope horn and saposhnikovia 1 nyang each; ginseng and red poria 7 don 5 pun each; notopterygium, plantago seed, asarum, scrophularia and scutellaria (stir-fried) 3 don 5 pun each. Powder them and take 2 don at a time stirred into rice water, after food. Antelope horn travels the reverting yin channel; scrophularia and asarum the lesser yin; notopterygium, saposhnikovia and plantago seed the greater yang. Where the sinews and vessels are withered and rough, add selfheal — I have tried it and it answers. — Uihak Gangmok 綱目 (Donguibogam · An)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The one entry in the section that explains itself by channel, drug by drug, and the explanation is why it is worth keeping: antelope horn for the liver, scrophularia and asarum for the kidney, notopterygium and saposhnikovia for the bladder — three channels covered because the eye's connecting vessel runs through all three. Seeing one object as two, without pain, is the indication, and the Gangmok's own addition of selfheal is offered as tested rather than reasoned. **Antelope horn comes from a CITES-listed species and cannot lawfully be traded; goat horn is used in its place.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
